There’s been a motion within the business in recent years with riders switching to cranks with shorter arm lengths. Doing so is meant to result in higher aerodynamic potency, lowered hip flexion, development of energy steadiness, or with the ability to take care of a better cadence over longer periods.

That has led manufacturers like 5DEV to increase shorter cranks, like their new 155mm and 165mm crank arm lengths for Highway, Gravel, and XC.

Like any of 5DEV’s merchandise, those new cranks are designed and manufactured of their San Diego, California HQ. 5DEV makes use of a mixture of state-of-the-art engineering, precision CNC machining, and robot laser welding. They’re crafted the use of hole, laser-welded titanium, and completed on a 5-axis CNC system. They weigh in at a claimed 460g (165mm with the 118mm highway spindle)

Compatibility

The cranks at the moment are to be had in 155mm, 160mm, 165mm, 170mm, and 175mm lengths. The spindle choices are 118mm, 122mm WIDE, 130mm Spice up, and 136 DUB Broad 55mm Chainline for customizable Q-Issue, and compatibility with more than a few drivetrains.

Those new cranks use SRAM 8 Bolt Interface making them appropriate with Quarq Energy Meters and SRAM 1x and 2X chainrings. In addition they combine with the Quarq DFour DUB Energy Meter for Shimano 2x, at the side of 5DEV’s customized 8-Bolt Spider for Shimano Dura-Ace rings. Additionally, 5DEV’s new 42T and 52T Aero chainrings can be utilized. And, 5DEV has a brand new Shimano GRX spider that might be launching in past due Spring 2025 (perhaps we’ll see it at Sea Otter).
