Tadej Pogačar promised to go back to Milan-San Remo in 2026, to take a look at to win once more and possibly compensate for some other defeat by the hands of Mathieu van der Poel.

As anticipated, UAE Workforce Emirates-XRG blew-up Milan-San Remo at the Cipressa climb, as Tim Wellens set an infernal tempo at the decrease slopes. Jhonatan Narváez then dragged Pogačar as much as the entrance to ship one ultimate leadout, earlier than the Global Champion danced away at the pedals at most energy in his same old taste.

He had was hoping to move transparent on my own, however may just no longer shake off an attentive Van der Poel and a tenacious Ganna.

“I tried to go alone on the Cipressa, but it would be really optimistic for it to work but I was also happy to go away with Mathieu and Filippo,” Pogačar mentioned.

“I then tried to attack them on the Poggio but I knew I needed to go early. Then in the sprint, we all started to sprint together at 300 metres.

The Slovenian’s surges hurt everyone, but Van der Poel managed to hold his wheel, whilst Filippo Ganna fought his way back on time and time again all the way to the Via Roma.

Van der Poel then dominated the final sprint from the front, with Pogačar having little left for one final effort, as he finished in third place behind the Dutchman and Ganna.

“We did the entirety imaginable, no longer simply me. I will be in reality proud about how we rode lately. Once a year we do higher and we confirmed extra aggression and extra strength of will at the Cipressa. As of late we did a fantastic race, I attempted to complete it off, however there have been two guys sooner than me…”

Pogačar had no criticism of Van der Poel, despite the Alpecin-Deceuninck leader sitting on his wheel for long spells.

“He did not care if there was once two or 3 folks within the ultimate,” Pogačar defined.

“For me it will be higher simply the 2 folks and even on my own however he knew he may just take a seat on my wheel and that I might attempted to assault, that was once evident.”

He was sporting even in defeat, stating that “Mathieu was once the quickest, so ‘chapeau’ to him. He was once in order that sturdy lately and Pippo [Ganna] too, I must be happy with 3rd,” he accepted.

Pogačar was left disappointed but not angry, that’s not his style.

“I do not hate Milan-San Remo however three hundred and sixty five days it wishes to move proper,” he said. “Needless to say we can come for extra subsequent 12 months.”

For now even though, Pogačar will flip his to the cobbles of Belgium for a Monument rematch with Van der Poel on the Excursion of Flanders in two weeks. There could also be the likelihood that we can see the Slovenian on the place to begin for Paris-Roubaix subsequent month to finish the trilogy.
