Jonas Vingegaard Slams Decision to Resume Racing After Neutralisation: “We Should Never Have Raced This Final Stage

Regardless of shifting into the GC lead at Paris-Great, Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Hire a Motorbike) believed racing must “never have continued” after brutal climate led to degree 4 to be neutralised within the ultimate 50 kilometres.

The degree used to be dropped at a halt by way of race officers as snow and heavy rain endured to fall prior to the breakaway and peloton have been guided slowly beneath neutralised stipulations till 28.8km to head, the place the racing resumed.

Riders attempted the entirety to get the heat again of their our bodies, with Pavel Sivakov (UAE Workforce Emirates-XRG) even retaining onto probably the most race motorbikes to check out and go back warmth to his palms prior to the restart.

“I have quite mixed feelings today, or not even mixed feelings – I’m just not really happy at the moment because, in my opinion, we should never have raced this final, and we should never have continued when we did,” Vingegaard informed CyclingProNet after the end.

“I wouldn’t say [it was] too dangerous, but it was more that we were riding more than 10-12km in the downhill and going super slow, and everyone was freezing. Nobody could feel their brakes.

“Then we have now 5 to ten mins to warmth up once more, however you do not truly get the warmth, and I nonetheless have not gotten the warmth again in my frame. I am nonetheless chilly.”

The conditions were so tough that several riders were left shaking in the freezing temperatures, with one TotalEnergies rider even forced to abandon the race due to suffering in the cold.

When the racing resumed and the stage reached the final climb to La Loge des Gardes, Vingegaard worked well with teammate and pre-stage race leader Matteo Jorgenson to mark attacks and try to control the group of favourites.

Vingegaard marked two bursts from Lenny Martinez (Bahrain Victorious) before launching away solo inside the final two kilometres. He got a gap but failed to show the same invincibility that his rival Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) has in 2025, only extending out a gap of 10 seconds.

“I feel it impacts everybody that the elements is like this, and we have been running tremendous smartly in combination at the remaining climb, overlaying the assaults in combination,” said Vingegaard. “I used to be feeling lovely just right, so I additionally had the liberty to head for it.”

João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) paced in the group behind to keep Vingegaard close, with Jorgenson in his wheel. However, when the final 100 metres arrived, Almeida was too strong for both of the Visma-Lease a Bike riders. He ultimately sprinted from behind and overtook Vingegaard just before the line to take the stage victory and make big gains on GC.

“Sadly for me, I used to be handed within the remaining 25 metres, and that’s the reason biking, however additionally it is disappointing for me as smartly,” stated Vingegaard, who holds a five-second lead over Jorgenson in moment and a 37-second merit over Almeida in 5th heading into degree 5.
